Casting finalized for Broadway premiere of ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’

The new play based on the Netflix series will feature a company of 34.

Complete casting has been revealed for the upcoming Main Stem bow of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” The previously announced production, a transfer from London’s West End, will begin previews on March 28 and open on April 22 at the Marquis Theatre. The play features direction by Stephen Daldry and co-direction by Justin Martin.

Newly announced cast members include Ta’Rea Campbell as Patty’s Mom, Robert T. Cunningham as Charles Sinclair, Ayana Cymone as Sue Anderson, Ian Dolley as Walter Henderson, Dora Dolphin as Karen Childress, Logan Gould as Lonny Byers, Shea Grant as Claudia Yount, Ted Koch as Chief Hopper, Jamie Martin Mann as Ted Wheeler, Eric Wiegand as Alan Munson and Juan Carlos as Bob Newby, the latter of whom replaces the previously announced Nicholas Eldridge. 

Rounding out the cast of 34 will be Janie Brookshire, Kelsey Anne Brown, Malcolm Callender, Antoinette Comer, Tom D'Agustino, Victor de Paula Rocha, Nya Garner, Rebecca Hurd, Timothy Lawrence, Patrick Scott McDermott, Stephen Wattrus, Maya West and Graham Winton. Casting is by Jim Carnahan.

They will appear alongside the previously reported Louis McCartney, who will reprise his performance as Henry Creel from the West End staging, as well as Rosie Benton as Virginia Creel, Alex Breaux as Dr. Brenner, Andrew Hovelson as Principal Newby, Alison Jaye as Joyce Maldonado, T.R. Knight as Victor Creel, Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby and Burke Swanson as James Hopper, Jr. 

Written by Kate Trefry and based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Trefry, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” chronicles the events that precede the happenings of the Netflix series. Set in the fictional town of Hawkins Indiana, the play follows newly arrived Henry Creel who initially thrives in his new high school. However, a slew of crimes shock the town, forcing Henry to wonder if there is something inside him that connects him to the horrors unfolding around him?  The play will feature original music by D.J. Walde, choreography by Coral Messam and movement direction by Lynne Page.

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is being produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions. The Duffer Brothers will serve as creative producers, while 21 Laps Entertainment will serve as associate producer.
