“Taking Liberty,” a new play by Emmy Award nominee Georgette Reilly Timoney, will receive a developmental reading on March 17 in New York City.
The reading will feature two-time Tony Award winner Bryan Cranston as second U.S. president John Adams and Tony nominee Geneva Carr as first lady Abigail Adams. Adapted from letters between the couple, “Taking Liberty” focuses on Abigail’s struggle to maintain her family’s farm and raise her children while John is in Philadelphia.
Cranston is no stranger to playing U.S. presidents, having won his first Tony Award for starring as Lyndon B. Johnson in “All the Way.” The “Breaking Bad” Emmy winner won a second Tony for “Network.” Carr earned a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in “Hand to God.” She since went on to star in the television series “Bull.”
Playwright Timoney will direct the reading, which is being presented by Eric Falkenstein and Spark Productions.
