The Kenny Leon-directed mounting of “Othello” will play Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The previously announced revival will begin previews on Feb. 24, 2025 and open on March 23. The production is slated to play a limited engagement through June 8. Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal and Molly Osborne will star.

The Shakespearean tragedy follows Moorish general Othello (Denzel Washington), who falls prey to the manipulation of his subordinate Iago (Gyllenhaal), causing him to act out against his wife, Desdemona (Osborne).

This marks the fourth Shakespeare production to play the 96-year-old Barrymore. The venue’s inaugural Shakespeare offering was a 1935 revival of “Othello,” which was immediately followed by a “Macbeth” production featuring the same cast. The Barrymore’s most recent mounting of the Bard was the 2013 Alan Cumming-led staging of “Macbeth.”

The Barrymore was most recently the home of the limited engagement of “Patriots,” and will host the upcoming limited run of “Our Town” (also to be directed by Leon) before “Othello” begins performances.

Additional casting for “Othello,” by Duncan Stewart of ARC Casting, will be announced.

“Othello” is being produced by Brian Anthony Moreland, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker.
