Phillip Johnson Richardson will join the company of the 2024 Best Musical Tony Award nominee “Hell’s Kitchen.” Richardson will step into the role of Knuck beginning on Oct. 22 at the Shubert Theatre. He will succeed the role’s originator, Chris Lee, who will exit the production on Oct. 20.

Richardson made his Broadway debut as the Tinman in the 2024 revival of “The Wiz.” He was previously seen in the Chicago production of “Hamilton.” Richardson’s additional credits include the Apple+ series “Little Voices” and the film “Sharper.”

Beyond Lee, the current principal cast of “Hell’s Kitchen” includes Maleah Joi Moon as Ali, Shoshana Bean as Jersey (through Dec. 1), Kecia Lewis as Miss Liza Jane and Brandon Victor Dixon as Davis.

Featuring a Tony-nominated book by Kristoffer Diaz and a score of preexisting and original tunes by Alicia Keys, “Hell’s Kitchen” tells the story of Ali, a rebellious New York City teenager. While trying to assert her independence from her mother, Ali discovers her piano-playing prowess.

Directed by Michael Greif and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, “Hell’s Kitchen” opened on April 20. The production received 13 Tony nominations, winning trophies for Moon and Lewis.

“Hell’s Kitchen” is produced by AKW Productions.
