Three Broadway theaters will dim their lights on May 20 in memory of the late general manager Alan Wasser.
The Majestic, Marquis and St. James Theatres, all of which had shows that were a significant part of Wasser’s career, will dim their lights for one minute next Monday at 6:45 p.m. Wasser died on April 14, 2019 at the age of 70.
“Alan Wasser — in his work on Cameron Mackintosh’s global hits — innovated ways to produce theatre at a higher level and a greater scale than had ever been possible before. But, foremost, he was loved for his generosity and 22 years ago I became one of the many Alan welcomed to Broadway with counsel and friendship,” said Thomas Schumacher, chairman of the Broadway League, in a press release. “He was an extraordinary theatrical manager and an even better friend.”
In addition to his career producing and general managing Broadway shows, Wasser was a member of the Broadway League for 30 years, including in several leadership positions.
“His dedication and committed leadership helped the League to become the organization it is today. In short, Alan made a difference,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League, in the release.
