Broadway’s box office mostly held steady for the week ending July 24.
Collectively, Broadway grossed $29,531,601, a 1.8% increase compared to last week. The 25 shows – one fewer than last week – played to 89% capacity.
The top three highest-grossing shows for the week were “The Music Man,” bringing in more than $3 million, followed by “The Lion King” and “Hamilton.”
“The Lion King,” which played another nine-performance week, grossed $2,434,665 and played to 98% capacity.
Also playing to nearly 98% capacity last week was “Into the Woods.” The musical grossed $1,890,615 and continues to perform well at the box office, even as Sara Bareilles missed a handful of performances last week due to illness. She is expected to return Tuesday evening.
“The Minutes” played its final performance on July 24. The play grossed $291,867 and played to 81% capacity – up nearly 17% – in its final week.
“The Kite Runner,” which opened on July 21, grossed $277,621 and played to 87% capacity.
Two musicals, “MJ” and “Beetlejuice,” were affected by cancelations last week, with each playing one fewer performance than usual. But “MJ” continued its post-Tony Awards hot streak, playing to over 100% capacity and grossing $1,525,812 – a slight increase over the previous week despite playing only seven performances. “Beetlejuice” grossed $1,001,210 and played to 75% capacity.
In its penultimate week on Broadway, “Company” played to 99% capacity and grossed $1,014,883, up 12% and 5%, respectively.
“Dear Evan Hansen” also had a better week, grossing $884,178 and playing to 99% capacity, both figures up 43% and 13%, respectively.
