Broadway League and COBUG announce return of annual Broadway Salutes event

The October ceremony will recognize veteran theater professionals.

The Broadway League and the Coalition of Broadway Unions and Guilds (COBUG) will host the 15th annual Broadway Salutes event on October 29, 2024, marking its first return since 2019. The ceremony will take place at Sardi’s restaurant in midtown Manhattan, beginning with a reception at 4 p.m.

Tony Award winner Laura Benanti will host the event, which will feature a performance by Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis. The event honors theater professionals who have dedicated 25, 35 and 50+ years to the Broadway community.

Since its inception in 2009, Broadway Salutes has recognized over 5,300 individuals from various roles within the industry, including actors, directors, designers and stagehands. The names of this year’s honorees will be displayed on an electronic zipper in Shubert Alley starting at 3:45 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.

“Our community’s love of Broadway runs so deep that many dedicate decades of their lives to preserving its magic,” said Lauren Reid, Broadway Salutes committee co-chair and president of the John Gore Organization (Broadway News’ parent company). “Once people join our Broadway family, they’re family for a lifetime. And Broadway Salutes allows us to recognize and thank each of our seasoned veterans personally for their many years of service to our industry.”

“We salute the crafts people, the artists, the professionals and a myriad of others, all of whom are at the top of their game and are often unseen by the audience,” added Laura Penn, Broadway Salutes committee co-chair and executive director of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. We celebrate their exceptional talents and tireless work that create the extraordinary, iconic, and memorable experience that is Broadway.”

The Broadway Salutes committee is additionally comprised of Chris Brockmeyer (Broadway League), Sara Cutler (Local 802 AFM), Ryan Hanley (Actors’ Equity Association), Darrelle Johnson (Broadway League), Ira Mont (AEA), Carl Mulert (USA 829), Lawrence Paone (Local 751), Rina Saltzman (ATPAM), Stasia Savage (IATSE Stagecraft), Ralph Sevush (Dramatists Guild), David Turner (TT Partners), Al Vincent Jr. (AEA), Mike Wexelblatt (Local One) and Pat White (Local 764).
