Broadway grosses experienced an overall dip as six shows opened last week.

For the week ending May 1, there were 36 shows running on Broadway bringing in a total gross of $29,072,410, down 15% from the previous week. Attendance was also down 10% to 241,500.

Six shows had their official opening nights in the final push before Tony Awards eligibility cutoff, up from four the previous week.

“American Buffalo” headliner Laurence Fishburne was out of the show all week due to COVID-19. The show grossed $528,846, with capacity dipping about 10% from last week.

“Funny Girl” stars Beanie Feldstein and Ramin Karimloo were out of the show over the weekend, according to a press representative. The musical played to over 96% capacity, grossing more than $1.1 million, down slightly from the week prior.

In its opening week, “A Strange Loop” had two heavily comped performances. The production grossed $415,276 and played to 76% capacity.

A number of family-friendly shows, including “Beetlejuice,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Wicked,” saw significant attendance declines, as children returned to school following Spring Break and the Easter holidays.
