The Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) has set a date for its biannual e-waste drive. The BGA will collect old electronics on Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The recycling event will take place in Times Square, directly across from the red steps in Duffy Square.
The drive, which is open to members of the theater industry and the general public, serves as a free and centrally located resource to responsibly recycle electronics. It is a partnership with 4THBIN, an organization that provides secure and certified recycling solutions.
Individuals representing Broadway shows, and other industry members, can donate a hamperful of electronics for free; additional recycled materials come with a suggested cost of 0.50 cents per pound. The general public can recycle up to 100 pounds for free.
The BGA will accept computers and peripherals, electronic cords, fax machines, CPUs, phones, laptops, printers, combination television and computers, PDAs and pagers, camera and other data-containing devices.
The BGA is unable to accept certain items: light bulbs, batteries, household appliances, air conditioning units, power tools, coffee machines and medical devices (such as X-ray machines).
The BGA is an initiative that aims to educate and motivate the theater industry to introduce, implement and commit to environmentally friendlier practices on Broadway and beyond. The organization celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2023.
