Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has set dates for its annual Red Bucket Follies. The post-fundraising performances will take place on Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. and on Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre.
The Red Bucket Follies comprises original songs, skits and dances, and serves as a culmination of Broadway Cares’ six-week fundraising efforts, which began on Oct. 25.
Current Broadway productions engaging in post-performance fundraising include “& Juliet,” “Aladdin,” “Back to the Future,” “Cabaret,” “Chicago,” “Hadestown,” “Hamilton,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “McNeal,” “Oh, Mary!,” “Once Upon a Mattress,” “Our Town,” “SIX,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “The Book of Mormon, “The Great Gatsby,” “The Hills of California,” “The Lion King, “The Notebook,” “The Outsiders,” “Water for Elephants,” “Wicked” and “Yellow Face.” Off-Broadway’s “Little Shop of Horrors,” “The Play That Goes Wrong” and “Titanique” will also fundraise, in addition to the national tours of “Clue, “Hamilton” and “Kimberly Akimbo.”
“The enthusiasm from our theatrical community as we start another Red Buckets fundraising season makes my heart swell,” said Broadway Cares executive director Tom Viola in a statement. “Every dollar dropped in a bucket will provide essential meals, lifesaving medication, life-affirming health care and hope to so many in need this holiday season and beyond. I’m endlessly grateful to those onstage, behind the scenes and in the audience, in addition to our beloved volunteers, who make this essential fundraising possible.”
Since its creation in 1989, the Red Bucket Follies (formerly called Gypsy of the Year) has raised $98.9 million to benefit Broadway Cares. The 2023 edition raised $4.6 million.
