Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has launched its six-week fall fundraising campaign. The bi-annual red bucket donation collection will kick off on Oct. 20 at performances across Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours. The campaign will continue through Dec. 3 and culminate with the annual “Red Bucket Follies” event.

Performances of the “Red Bucket Follies” will take place on Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The in-person event has been on hiatus since 2019. Broadway Cares’ spring counterparty event, the “Easter Bonnet” competition, resumed in person for the first time in early 2023.

The red bucket appeals will begin with Broadway’s “& Juliet,” “Back to the Future,” “A Beautiful Noise,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Gutenberg!,” “Hamilton,” “Here Lies Love,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” “The Lion King,” “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Purlie Victorious,” “The Shark Is Broken,” “SIX,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Wicked.” The following week, Broadway’s “Aladdin,” “Hadestown,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Melissa Etheridge: My Window,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “Shucked” and “Some Like It Hot” will join the initiative.

“Red Bucket Follies,” previously called “Gypsy of the Year,” has raised $87.6 million to benefit Broadway Cares since its inception in 1989. Monies raised provide nutritious meals, medication, healthcare, counseling and emergency financial assistance to those with HIV/AIDS and other serious illness.

“Red Bucket Follies” is sponsored by The New York Times.
