“BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical” will open on Broadway in April 2025 at a Shubert Organization-owned venue. A first-preview date and exact opening night for the previously announced new musical are still to be announced.
Also newly confirmed is the musical’s complete design and creative team. That includes set designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Finn Ross, hair/wig designer Sabana Majeed, makeup designer Michael Clifton, illusions designer Skylar Fox, marionette designers The Huber Marionettes, music supervisor and arranger Daryl Waters, orchestrator Doug Besterman, dance arranger Zane Mark and music director Andrew Resnick.
Based on the Betty Boop cartoon created by Max Fleischer, “BOOP!” follows the title character, who longs for a break from her black-and-white world of super celebrity to enjoy an ordinary day off. Armed with inimitable looks, voice and style, Betty embarks on an adventure of color, music and love in New York City.
“BOOP! features music by David Foster, lyrics by Susan Birkenhead and a book by Bob Martin. The tuner first played Chicago’s CIBC Theatre from Nov. 19 to Dec. 24, 2023.
“Creating ‘BOOP!’ with David, Susan and Bob, and premiering in Chicago last holiday season was a gift to all of us and our entire family,” said Mitchell in a statement. “I can’t wait to bring Betty home to Broadway next spring.”
As previously reported, Jasmine Amy Rogers, who played the title role in the Chicago production, will repeat her turn on Broadway. Additional casting, by Tara Rubin, will be announced.
“BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical” is being produced by Ostar Productions.
