“Swept Away” has announced a closing date. The new musical will depart the Main Stem on Dec. 15. Following previews that began on Oct. 29, “Swept Away” opened on Nov. 19 at the Longacre Theatre. Upon closing, the production will have played 20 previews and 32 performances.

“Swept Away” features a book by John Logan and a score of new songs by the Avett Brothers, as well as songs from the folk group’s 2004 album “Mignonette.” The album and the musical are inspired by the real-life Mignonette shipwreck of 1884. The production is directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by David Neumann, both of whom reprised their duties from 2022 Berkeley Repertory Theatre and 2023 Arena Stage mountings.

“We are deeply proud of this beautiful production and the years of work that it took to get to Broadway,” lead producers Matthew Masten, Sean Hudock and Madison Wells Live said in a statement. “We will forever be indebted to our fantastic creative team, our loyal actors and all of our co-producers and in turn their investors, for believing in this production and taking a risk on new work.”

During the curtain call of the Dec. 5 evening performance, star John Gallagher Jr. addressed the audience:
