The producers of “Chicago” have announced that actress and human rights advocate Angelica Ross will make her Broadway debut in the role of Roxie Hart. She will play an eight-week run beginning September 12, finishing on November 6. According to the show’s press representatives, Ross will become the first openly transgender woman to play a leading role in a Broadway show.
Ross is well-known for her roles in television shows including “Pose” and “American Horror Story.” She is the founder and CEO of TransTech Social Enterprises, which is described as “an award-winning program that helps people lift themselves out of poverty through technical training, digital work creating a social impact, resource-sharing and bringing economic empowerment to marginalized communities with a focus on Black queer and trans.”
Ross will take over the role of Roxie Hart from Bianca Marroquín. As previously announced, Ryoko Yonekura will assume the role on November 7 for 16 performances.
