Music Theatre International (MTI) has announced that “Beetlejuice JR” is now available for licensing. “Beetlejuice JR” is a 60-minute adaptation of the version of the musical “Beetlejuice” that appeared on Broadway.

MTI’s “Broadway Junior” musicals are shortened, author-approved versions of full-length shows. The condensed adaptations are designed to fit the needs of younger performers and school groups.

Based on the 1988 film of the same name and featuring a Tony Award-nominated score by Eddie Perfect and a Tony-nominated book by Anthony King and Scott Brown, “Beetlejuice” follows Lydia Deetz, a teenager who develops an obsession with death following the loss of her mother. Lydia and her father’s new home is haunted by the demon Beetlejuice, whose friendship with Lydia renders the house in chaos.

“‘Beetlejuice’ thrilled Broadway audiences and built a large and fervent fan base among all age groups,” said Drew Cohen, MTI’s president and CEO, in a statement. “We look forward to delivering this hilarious and touching adaptation for younger performers across the country. Bravo to Eddie Perfect, Scott Brown and Anthony King for bringing the title character so vividly to life...figuratively speaking, of course.”

The eight-time Tony nominated “Beetlejuice” opened on April 25, 2019 at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre, and closed on March 10, 2020. A return engagement played the Marquis Theatre from April 8, 2022 to Jan. 8, 2023.

The full-length version of “Beetlejuice” is not available for licensing.
