“Almost Famous” will open on Broadway this fall, producers Lia Vollack and Michael Cassel Group announced Thursday.
Previews are set to begin on Sept. 13 with an official opening scheduled for Oct. 11. The show will run at a to-be-announced Shubert theater.
The musical has a book and lyrics by Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed the 2000 film of the same name, and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt.
“Almost Famous” had its world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego in 2019.
The team that helmed the world premiere production will return, including Jeremy Herrin as director. Lorin Latarro, who choreographed at The Old Globe, has departed the production due to a scheduling conflict. Sarah O’Gleby will step in.
The cast includes Chris Wood, Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling, Casey Likes, Rob Colletti, Matt Bittner, Chad Burris, Gerard Canonico, Julia Cassandra, Brandon Contreras, Jakeim Hart, Van Hughes, Jana Djenne Jackson, Katie Ladner, Danny Lindgren, Erica Mansfield, Alisa Melendez, Emily Schultheis, Daniel Sovich, Libby Winters and Matthew C. Yee.
The design team includes Derek McLane (scenic design), David Zinn (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design) and Peter Hylenski (sound design). Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Jillian Robbins and Devin Keudell are executive producers, with Bespoke Theatricals covering the general management.
An original Broadway cast recording will be released by Sony Masterworks Broadway this fall. The first track, “Everybody’s Coming Together,” is now available to stream.
