“& Juliet” has announced a new slate of replacement principal performers and ensemblists. Alison Luff will take over the role of Anne, Liam Pearce will step into the role of Romeo and Michael Iván Carrier will assume the role of May beginning on Oct. 29. They will succeed Betsy Wolfe, Ben Jackson Walker and Justin David Sullivan, respectively.
Additionally, Nathan Levy will join the company at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Nov. 19, taking over the role of François from Philippe Arroyo, who will exit the production on Oct. 27. From Oct. 29 through Nov. 17, François will be played by understudy Makai Hernandez.
As previously announced, Wolfe will depart the production on Oct. 20; production understudies Megan Kane and Tiernan Tunnicliffe will alternate in the role of Anne in the interim. Walker and Sullivan, as announced, will play their final performance on Oct. 27.
Luff, Pearce and Levy all appeared in musicals that opened during the 2023-2024 season. Luff played Mrs. Walker in the revival of “The Who’s Tommy,” while Pearce originated the role of Drew in “How to Dance in Ohio” and Levy originated the role of Clumsy in “Once Upon a One More Time.” Carrier was a part of the opening-night company of “& Juliet,” having understudied both May and François.
Joining them beginning on Oct. 29 will be newly announced replacement ensemble members Gabe Amato as Gregory, Reese Britts as Sly, Nicholas Cooper as Lenox, Jhailyn Paige Farcon as Imogen, Elsa Keefe as Eleanor/Benvolio, Alejandro Muller Dahlberg as Crosse, Cassie Silva as Lucy, Darien “Daah” Van Rensalier as Augustine and the previously announced Charli D’Amelio as Charmian; Romy Vuskan will join the company directly from “& Juliet”’s Australian production in the role of Viola on Oct. 8.
Continuing with the cast will be Maya Boyd as Juliet, Paulo Szot as Lance, Drew Gehlig as Shakespeare and Jeannette Bayardelle as Angélique. Casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner.
Featuring a Tony Award-nominated book by David West Read and set against a slew of Max Martin pop songs, “& Juliet” reimagines Shakespeare’s classic tragedy where the titular heroine survives and embarks on a journey of self empowerment. The production opened on Nov. 17, 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards. A national tour in Baltimore in September.
