On the heels of an engagement at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming’s new solo act will play a one-night performance on Broadway. The show, titled “Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age,” will appear on March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Studio 54 (where Cumming most recently appeared on Broadway in “Cabaret”). The solo evening is being produced by Jacob Langfelder in association with Broadway and Vine, with executive producing by Erica Rotstein.
Described as a humorous performance centered on aging, “Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age” covers many bases: sex, death and bacchanalia, with a set list that includes Kander and Ebb tunes blended with contemporary favorites. The performance will feature musical direction by Henry Koperski.
Cumming earned a Tony Award for his turn as the Emcee in the 1998 revival of “Cabaret,” a performance he reprised in a 2014 remount. He won a second Tony in 2022 as a producer on the musical “A Strange Loop.” Cumming’s other Main Stem credits include acting turns in “Design for Living,” “The Threepenny Opera” and “Macbeth.” His screen work has earned him four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his portrayal of Eli Gold on “The Good Wife” and as a co-host of the 69th Annual Tony Awards.
“The cabaret genre and Studio 54 are both utterly defining parts of my life and career,” said Cumming in a statement. “So to be able to combine the two — taking my latest show to this beautiful and iconic venue — is a dream come true and a coming home wrapped up in one. And where better to discuss not acting your age than the home of hedonism and bacchanalia?”
While “Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age” is being staged at the Roundabout Theatre Company-owned venue Studio 54, the performance is not a production of Roundabout. Studio 54 is currently the home to the commercial production of “Days of Wine and Roses,” which is set to open on Jan. 28 and play a limited run through April 28.
