“Aladdin” canceled its Wednesday evening performance due to positive COVID-19 cases in the Broadway company.
The cancellation comes a day after the Disney Theatrical production played its first performance since the March 12, 2020 shutdown. All Broadway casts and crews are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the production described the results as “breakthrough cases” that were discovered through testing.
The cast, crew and orchestra members working on “Aladdin” are tested daily.
This is the first Broadway production to announce a canceled performance due to COVID-19 cases since the industry resumed performances.
“Because the wellness and safety of our guests, cast, and crew are our top priority, tonight’s performance, Wednesday, September 29th, is canceled,” the production said in a statement.
Actors’ Equity has set a requirement for casts to be tested on at least a weekly basis. Audience members are required to show proof of vaccination and wear masks throughout the performance, with few exceptions.
The production said it would announce the status of future performances Thursday.
