The new play “The Rosenbergs” will receive two industry presentations in New York City. Chloe Treat will direct the readings of the drama by S. Asher Gelman, set to take place on March 21 at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Midnight Theatricals will produce.

The cast of “The Rosenbergs” will include Caroline Aaron, Francis Benhamou, William DeMerritt, Andy Gale, Adam Kantor, Zachary Prince, Sharone Sayegh and Rebbekah Vega-Romero. Casting is by Geoff Josselson. The reading will feature production stage management by Chris Steckel, general management by Evan Bernardin Productions and marketing by Think Big Picture.

Set in a luxury resort in Turks and Caicos, “The Rosenbergs” follows the titular family as they face two impending storms: the first, a sudden hurricane forcing the group into close quarters, which engenders the second, a tempest of deep-seated family tensions and confrontations over identity, faith and geopolitical beliefs.

Gelman’s literary catalog includes “Scarlett Dreams,” which opened Off-Broadway in 2024, as well as “Afterglow,” which played Off-Broadway in 2017, in Los Angeles in 2022 and in London 2024. Gelman is the artistic director of Midnight Theatricals, which received a 2023 Tony Award nomination for shepherding “Fat Ham” to Broadway. Midnight Theatricals also includes executive director Stefano Milici and director of creative development Robbie Simpson.

Treat served as associate choreographer on the Broadway production of “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812,” as well as assistant choreographer on Manhattan Theatre Club’s mounting of “Heisenberg.”

Aaron is known for her role of Shirley Maisel on the television series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” She is currently co-starring in the Off-Broadway play “Conversations with Mother.”

Benhamou most recently appeared in both the Off-Broadway and Main Stem mountings of “Prayer for the French Republic.”

DeMerritt has appeared in Signature Theatre’s production of “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World” and the HBO adaption of “The Normal Heart.”

Gale is an alum of the original Broadway companies of “Rags” and “Side Show,” as well as national tours of “Cats” and “Les Misérables.”

Kantor played Mark Cohen in the closing company of “Rent,” and appeared in “The Band’s Visit, which also featured Sayegh, an alum of “Come From Away.”

Prince’s Broadway credits includes “Mother Play,” “Honeymoon in Vegas” and a revival of “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.”

Vega-Romero is known for her leading role in the Amazon Prime short film “down, down, baby” and for her performance as Gertrude McFuzz in the recent tour of “Seussical.”

“As someone who has spent my entire life wrestling with my Jewish identity, and all the complexities and contradictions that lie within, it has been a profoundly cathartic and beautiful experience exploring what it means to be Jewish, in this moment, with this extraordinary group of people,” Gelman said in a statement. “In our deeply divided time, I hope this play inspires people to seek a way back together, despite our differences in identity and belief.”
