Actors’ Equity spoke out against the mob of Trump supporters who broke into the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.
“What happened yesterday in Washington, D.C. was shocking and unacceptable. For hours, a nation watched white supremacy on display in an illegal attempt to overturn the will of the people and disenfranchise millions of voters in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and around the nation.
“There must be consequences and there must be accountability, not just for those who recklessly stormed the Capitol and disrupted the transition, but for the politicians who have shamefully incited this behavior with a steady stream of disinformation and hate,” Equity said in a statement.
On Twitter, Equity called for the removal of President Trump through the use of the 25th amendment or impeachment after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had demanded the same actions.

Equity, along with other theatrical unions including the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and IATSE, endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 election.
Supporters of President Trump broke into the Capitol Wednesday in an attempt to thwart the certification of the presidential election results. The results, and President-Elect Biden’s victory, were certified late Wednesday.
