“The Outsiders”’ Dallas Winston is a famous literary character, thanks to the popularity of the S.E. Hinton novel (published in 1967) and Matt Dillon’s portrayal of Dallas in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film adaptation. But for the new musical version of “The Outsiders,” Tony Award nominee Joshua Boone makes the role his own.

In Boone’s hands, Dally (as the role is nicknamed) is a different character. And in a cast more ethnically diverse than the book or movie, Boone’s Dally and fellow Tony nominee Sky Lakota-Lynch’s Johnny Cade have a bond that runs deeper.

In this episode, Boone talks about his relationship with Lakota-Lynch, his take on Dally and his solo number “Little Brother.”
