The Shubert Organization has announced a donation of $5 million to the Entertainment Community Fund to help support health initiatives within the performing arts community.

The gift will benefit the expansion of the Samuel J. Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, which will be able to provide more doctors' offices and other services. The Health Center is a partnership between the Entertainment Community Fund and Mount Sinai Doctors to support the performing arts and entertainment community.

In addition, the donation will benefit the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey, and various projects within the Hollywood Arts Collective in Los Angeles.

"The Entertainment Community Fund is honored by the long-standing commitment of the Shubert Organization and the countless ways it supports our work to provide a safety net for people in the performing arts community," said the fund's board chair, Brian Stokes Mitchell, in a statement. "A special thank-you to Bob Wankel for his continued leadership not only at the Shubert Organization, but also with the Actors Fund Housing Development Corporation board of directors."
