Nearly 10 years after it last set this box office record, “Chicago” saw its highest-grossing non-holiday week in the revival’s 26-year history. The production — which currently features Jinkx Monsoon as Matron “Mama” Morton — earned $913,161 this past week, up 15%, and played to standing-room-only crowds with attendance up 8%. The production’s previous record was $912,004 (for the week ending March 31, 2013).

For the week ending March 12, the 27 shows running grossed $28,638,821, up 14% from the previous week. Capacity increased 4% to 92%.

“The Phantom of the Opera,” “Hamilton” and “Funny Girl” were the three highest-grossing productions. Nineteen shows played to at least 95% capacity, while four played to 70% or under.

Many of the productions that suffered double-digit decreases post-Presidents Week rebounded financially this week, including “Aladdin” (up 20%), “Hadestown” (up 19%), “Hamilton” (up 17%), “Six” (up 17%), “The Book of Mormon” (up 15%) and “Wicked” (up 22%).

“Some Like It Hot” also had a significantly better week, grossing $772,567, up 16%. The musical played to 70% capacity, an increase of 12% from the previous week.

In the final week for some of its original cast members, “Leopoldstadt” grossed $565,857, up 4%. Capacity increased by 12% as the production played to houses that were 69% full.

Through its first five previews, the new musical “Shucked” grossed $291,972 and played to 99% capacity. The production has implemented preview pricing, which caps ticket prices at $149 until the show officially opens.

Last week, “Life of Pi,” “Shucked” and “Camelot” all began previews. “Bob Fosse’s ‘Dancin’,” “Parade,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Bad Cinderella” remained in previews. “A Doll’s House” opened on March 9.
