The annual concert “Broadway Backwards” will return to the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 13.

Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, “Broadway Backwards” celebrates the LGBTQ+ community by interpreting classic and current musical theater songs into anthems of LGBTQ+ experiences. The concert will benefit Broadway Cares and New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center.

Last year’s event was held in person, following a two-year pandemic-induced pause on the live event. The 2020 event was canceled just days before its scheduled performance; in 2021, Broadway Cares presented a virtual show of new filmed performances.

In 2022, “Broadway Backwards” raised a record of $758,582 for the same two charities.

The 2023 event will be directed by “Broadway Backwards” creator Robert Bartley and associate directed by Lauren Gemelli. Bartley, Mimi Quillin, Adam Roberts and Luis Salgado will choreograph. Ted Arthur and Mary-Mitchell Campbell will serve as music supervisors. Jeff Brancato will be the production stage manager.

The full cast of performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

The one-night-only event, which began in 2006, is sponsored this year by City National Bank and United Airlines.
