Maria-Christina Oliveras has joined Broadway’s “Between Riverside and Crazy” in the role of Church Lady. She assumes the role from Liza Colón-Zayas, who departed the production due to a scheduling conflict. Oliveras’ previous Broadway credits include “Amelie,” “Machinal” and “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.”

Oliveras joins the company that includes Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Michael Rispoli and Common. Casting is by Telsey + Company.

The Second Stage production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play, directed by Austin Pendleton, began previews on Dec. 1 and officially opened at the Hayes Theatre on Dec. 19. The production runs through Feb. 12.

The play tells the story of a newly-widowed father and his recently paroled son who fight to keep the last rent stabilized apartment on Riverside Drive — with old wounds and new characters who pop up along the way.

The Broadway engagement is produced under the leadership of Second Stage’s president and artistic director Carole Rothman and executive director Khady Kamara.
