Producers Barry Diller, David Geffen and Kate Horton have announced that the revival of “The Music Man,” starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, will play its final performance on Jan. 1, 2023 at the Winter Garden Theatre. By closing, the production will have played 46 previews and 358 regular performances.

Regularly a top performer at the box office, this revival of “The Music Man” broke the Winter Garden Theatre’s previous weekly box office record a total of 48 times, according to press representatives. Though the musical typically grossed in the high two-millions or low three-millions, during the week ending June 19 the grosses dipped to $1.7 million, when Jackman stepped out of the show due to a positive COVID-19 test. That week, though, the musical was still the fourth highest-grossing production on Broadway.

“The Music Man” began previews on Dec. 20, 2021 and officially opened on Feb. 10, 2022, after an originally announced fall 2020 opening that was twice postponed due to the theatrical shutdown.
