A new adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” will open on Broadway this holiday season.

Jefferson Mays will lead the solo staging of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, which will run at the Nederlander Theatre for a limited 66-performance engagement.

Previews will begin Nov. 8 ahead of a Nov. 21 opening night. The production will conclude its limited run on Jan. 1, 2023.

Directed by Michael Arden, the play is adapted by Mays, Arden and Susan Lyons, and was conceived by Arden and Dane Laffrey.

The creative team also includes Laffrey (scenic and costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Lucy Mackinnon (projection design), Joshua D. Reid (sound design), Cookie Jordan (hair and makeup design), John Kristiansen (puppet design), Stephen Kopel (casting director) and Justin Scribner (associate director and production stage manager).

Mays, a Tony winner for “I Am My Own Wife,” can currently be seen on Broadway as Mayor Shinn in the revival of “The Music Man.” He will depart the production on Oct. 23.

This adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” originated at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles in 2018. A filmed version was then streamed in the winter of 2020 by producer Hunter Arnold to help theaters around the country raise money during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After everything we’ve been through in the past few years it seems fitting to tell the story of one man’s reflection and redemption on the Broadway stage,” Arnold said. “In a time where the world needs each of us to look within and find our own best selves, we are ecstatic to bring this iconic tale of metamorphosis and catharsis to audiences this holiday season.”

“A Christmas Carol” is produced on Broadway by Arnold and Kayla Greenspan.
