Theatre Development Fund (TDF) has announced the 11th season of the Autism-Friendly Performances (AFP) program.
These performances are geared towards individuals with autism, as well as those who are neurodiverse and differently abled.
The season of performances begins with “The Lion King” on Oct. 2.
On Nov. 27, the New York City Ballet will host the first-ever Autism-Friendly Performance of George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker.”
The season will continue with “Wicked” on Feb. 12, 2023, followed by “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” on April 30.
One more show to finish out the season will be announced at a later date.
Tickets for these performances typically become available 6-8 weeks in advance. They can only be purchased through TDF’s website.
“We’re thrilled to announce this 2022-23 season for several reasons,” said Lisa Carling, director of TDF Accessibility Programs. “Not only does the demand for these performances for families with children and adults on the autism spectrum increase each year, but this marks the 11th time we’ve worked with the marvelous folks at Disney Theatrical Productions to present an Autism-Friendly Performance of ‘The Lion King.’”
TDF, a not-for-profit service, is known for its programs that support the performing arts and make theater more accessible.
