Broadway grosses dipped slightly last week, as COVID-19 cases led to the cancellation of several performances and as two productions held opening nights.

All 31 productions brought in a collective gross of $28,329,869, down 2% from the previous week. Broadway capacity rose slightly to 87% from 85% in the previous week.

Among the cancellations, “Paradise Square” played three performances last week, bringing in $80,612, and is now dark until April 16 due to COVID-19 cases in the company. “Plaza Suite” grossed $547,536 across three performances, with Michael McGrath stepping in for Matthew Broderick for one show, and is now canceled through April 13. “Macbeth” and “A Strange Loop” were dark last week due to COVID-19 cases.

“Take Me Out” and “Birthday Candles” opened on April 4 and April 10, respectively.  And “Beetlejuice,” now playing the Marquis Theatre, played its first two performances back on Broadway to an audience at 100% capacity.

Despite the rise in COVID-19 in the city, several productions saw increasing grosses as Broadway enters the busy spring season. “Six” had its best week of 2022, bringing in $1.34 million and playing to 100% capacity. “The Lion King” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” both saw grosses jump by more than $220,000 from the prior week. “Tina,” “Wicked” “MJ” and “Dear Evan Hansen” all rose by more than $100,000. Eleven out of the 31 running productions grossed more than $1 million.

“The Music Man” continued to top the box office chart, bringing in $3.32 million. The production had 28 fewer audience members than the prior week, leading to a $10,830 drop in grosses between the two weeks.
