Daniel Radcliffe to star in Off-Broadway production of ‘Merrily We Roll Along’

Daniel Radcliffe will star in “Merrily We Roll Along” at New York Theatre Workshop in late 2022, the Off-Broadway theater announced Monday. Radcliffe will play Charley, a leading role originated by Lonny Price and more recently played by Lin-Manuel Miranda in a 2012 ​​Encores! concert.

Daniel Radcliffe will star in “Merrily We Roll Along” at New York Theatre Workshop in late 2022, the Off-Broadway theater announced Monday.

Radcliffe will play Charley, a leading role originated by Lonny Price and more recently played by Lin-Manuel Miranda in a 2012 ​​Encores! concert. Additional casting and exact dates for the production will be announced at a later date.

The revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1981 musical will be directed by Maria Friedman and choreographed by Tim Jackson. Friedman previously led a production of the musical at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London, which later transferred to the West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

The Off-Broadway production is produced through special arrangement with Sonia Friedman Productions, Menier Chocolate Factory and Patrick Catullo.

Radcliffe, who came to fame in the “Harry Potter” film franchise, has an extensive list of theater credits including the Broadway productions of “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “Equus,” “The Cripple of Inishmaan” and “The Lifespan of a Fact.” He has also appeared Off-Broadway in “Privacy” at the Public Theater as well as in several West End shows.

The production completes New York Theatre Workshop’s 2022-2023 season, which includes a new adaptation of Anthon Chekhov’s “Three Sisters,” “american (tele)visions,” “How to Defend Yourself” and “The Half-God of Rainfall.”
