“Kimberly Akimbo” will transfer to Broadway this fall.
The new musical, with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, will start previews on Oct. 12, ahead of a Nov. 10 opening. Victoria Clark, who plays the lead character, and the full cast from the musical’s Off-Broadway run will transfer to Broadway.
“Kimberly Akimbo” will play a yet unannounced Shubert theater.
The complete cast includes Justin Cooley, Steven Boyer (“Hand to God”), Alli Mauzey (“Wicked”), Bonnie Milligan (“Head Over Heels”), Olivia Elease Hardy, Fernell Hogan (“The Prom”), Michael Iskander and Nina White. Cooley, Hardy, Iskander and White will make their Broadway debuts with the production.
The musical is based on the 2000 play by Lindsay-Abaire, in which Kim, played by Clark (“The Light in the Piazza”), is a teenager, but looks like a 72-year-old woman due to a genetic disease. The production, which is choreographed by Danny Mefford and directed by Jessica Stone, made its world premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company in fall 2021.
The musical is produced on Broadway by David Stone, Atlantic Theater Company, James L. Nederlander, LaChanze, John Gore, Patrick Catullo and Aaron Glick. Gore is the chief executive of the John Gore Organization, which is the parent company of Broadway News.
