Martin McDonagh’s “Hangmen” will return to Broadway’s Golden Theatre this spring, producers Robert Fox, Jean Doumanian and Craig Balsam announced Tuesday.

The play is set to begin preview performances on April 8, ahead of an opening night scheduled for April 21. The play is scheduled for a limited 10-week engagement.

The production had completed 13 preview performances at the Golden Theatre when the pandemic forced the closure of all Broadway theaters on March 12, 2020. The show was the first on Broadway to announce it would not return after the shutdown, citing the financial inability to pay rent for the theater and retain its cast and crew members.

Months later, the production received a $5.2 million grant from the Small Business Administration as part of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program to aid with reopening costs.

The play comes to the Golden Theatre after the early closure of “Thoughts of a Colored Man.”

Alfie Allen, Andy Nyman and David Threlfall will join the company for the play’s return. Returning cast members include Tracie Bennett, Owen Campbell, Jeremy Crutchley, Gaby French, Josh Goulding, John Hodgkinson, Richard Hollis, John Horton and Ryan Pope.

Directed by Matthew Dunster, the production features set and costume design by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Joshua Carr and sound design by Ian Dickinson.

The Broadway run follows the play’s Olivier Award-winning West End engagement in 2016 and an Off-Broadway premiere at the Atlantic Theater in 2018. It is McDonagh’s seventh play produced on Broadway.
