James Monroe Iglehart will join the Broadway company of “Chicago” as Billy Flynn, producers Barry and Fran Weissler announced Tuesday.
Iglehart steps into the show Jan. 17, taking over from Tom Hewitt, who has been in the role since Paulo Szot departed the production in late November. This season, Iglehart has appeared in “Hamilton” on Broadway and in “Freestyle Love Supreme.”
Iglehart won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Genie in “Aladdin.”
He will star in “Chicago” alongside Ana Villafañe as Roxie Hart, Bianca Marroquín as Velma Kelly and Jennifer Fouché as Matron “Mama” Morton.
“Chicago” reopened at the Ambassador Theatre on Sept. 14.
