The Dec. 15 matinee of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” has been canceled due to the detection of breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the company, the production announced Wednesday.

The social media statement posted Wednesday morning says that performances will resume with the Dec. 15 evening show. Ticket holders should contact their point of purchase to “discuss exchange options,” according to the statement.

Many productions on Broadway have needed to cancel recent performances due to the discovery of breakthrough COVID-19 cases. “Tina” canceled its Wednesday matinee and plans to resume performances Thursday evening. “Ain’t Too Proud” and “Freestyle Love Supreme” canceled performances earlier in the week, and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” has been dark since Dec. 12, and intends to resume performances Thursday.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” resumed performances at Broadway’s Lyric Theatre Nov. 12, now running as a single play instead of the two-part version that played before the pandemic shutdown. An official opening night for the play’s new format was held Dec. 7.
