HBO will release a documentary about the “Spring Awakening” reunion concert taking place Monday night.
RadicalMedia is producing the documentary film, which will debut on HBO and then stream on HBO Max in 2022.
The reunion concert is scheduled to take place Monday at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre. The performance marks the first time the cast of the 2006 musical, which was led by Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, will reunite in 15 years. The production’s original director Michael Mayer directs the reunion concert.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Actors Fund.
The documentary will feature performances from the concert, as well as interviews with the cast and archival footage from the original production.
The HBO documentary is directed by Michael John Warren. Executive producers are Jon Kamen, Meredith Bennet and Dave Sirulnick for RadicalMedia, as well as Tom Hulce, Ira Pittelman and Groff. Lauren Pritchard is a co-producer on the documentary.
