Lana Gordon will join the Broadway cast of “Hadestown” as the alternate Persephone starting Oct. 11, lead producer Mara Isaacs announced Wednesday.

The change is being made to allow original cast member Amber Gray more time with her family.

Gordon, whose previous Broadway credits include Velma in “Chicago,” and “The Lion King,” will perform the role of Persphone twice per week. Gray will continue to perform the remaining six shows of the weekly schedule.

This is the second Broadway production in recent weeks to make accommodations for new mothers. “Jagged Little Pill” announced that Elizabeth Stanley, who recently had a child, would return to the show in November and share her leading role with new cast member Heidi Blickenstaff.

“We are also pleased to be able to support Amber Gray as she balances her needs as a parent of two young children while simultaneously continuing to nourish her artistic self at Hadestown,” Isaacs said.

“Hadestown” resumed performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Sept. 2.
