Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the full cast starring alongside LaChanze in the Broadway production of “Trouble in Mind.”

Michael Zegen (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) will star as Al Manners, Chuck Cooper (“The Life,” “Amazing Grace”) will star as Sheldon Forrester and Danielle Campbell (“Tell Me a Story”) will star as Judy Sears.

Jessica Frances Dukes (“Ozark”) will play Millie Davis, Brandon Micheal Hall (“God Friended Me”) will play John Nevins. Simon Jones (“Farinelli and the King”) will play Henry, Alex Mickiewicz (“Long Day’s Journey Into Night”) will play Eddie Fenton and Don Stephenson (“The Producers”) will play Bill O’Wray.

The play, written by Alice Childress, premiered Off-Broadway in 1955. It follows Wiletta (played by LaChanze), a Black actress in rehearsals for a Broadway production, as she examines racism and ego in the theater world.

“Trouble in Mind” began rehearsals Tuesday. The play, written by Alice Childress and directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, is scheduled to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre Oct. 29, with an opening night set for Nov. 18. It plays a limited engagement through Jan. 9.
