Billy Crystal will star in “Mr. Saturday Night,” a new musical in development at Barrington Stage.
The musical comedy is based on the 1992 film, which starred Crystal as stand-up comedian in a screenplay written by Crystal, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. The trio have reunited to write the musical’s book.
“Mr. Saturday Night” will feature music by Jason Robert Brown and lyrics by Amanda Green. It is directed by John Rando.
The new musical will stage a presentation at Barrington Stage for nine performances, with minimal set and costume, from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24 and Oct. 26 to Oct. 30.
The presentation will also star Randy Graff, Chasten Harmon and David Paymer, who appeared in the film as Crystal’s brother, Stan Yankelman.
