Paulo Szot will fill the role of Billy Flynn in “Chicago” when the musical returns to Broadway next month, producers Barry and Fran Weissler announced Thursday.
Szot returns to the role after having previously played Flynn in January 2020. He is a Tony and Drama Desk Award winner for his performance in the 2008 Broadway production of “South Pacific.”
The announcement follows Monday’s reveal of Ana Villafañe, Bianca Marroquín and Lillias White as Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly and Matron “Mama” Morton, respectively. The role of Billy Flynn was the last still to be announced.
Szot’s casting makes him the third in “a trio of Latin stars” leading the Broadway return cast, as the press release describes.
Performances of “Chicago” are set to resume at the Ambassador Theatre on Sept. 14.
