The musical will play a limited engagement at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre from Sept. 2 through Jan. 9. Bareilles, the composer of “Waitress,” will star as Jenna from the first performance through Oct. 17.

“Waitress” returns to Broadway after running at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre from March 2016 through Jan. 6, 2020. Since then, the musical has played the West End and launched a U.S. national tour. It has a UK tour planned for this fall, as well as upcoming international productions.

While Jessie Mueller originated the Broadway role of Jenna, Bareilles played the role several times throughout the musical’s original run. Full casting for the return of the musical will be announced at a later date.

“Waitress” is produced on Broadway by Barry and Fran Weissler and Norton and Elayne Herrick. The musical features a book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Diane Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro.

The new musical “Paradise Square” is scheduled to start previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Feb. 22, 2022.
