“Thoughts of a Colored Man” has announced complete casting and a first preview date of Oct. 1.
The new play, written by Keenan Scott II and directed by Steve H. Broadnax III, will feature Dyllón Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Da’Vinchi, Luke James, Forrest McClendon, Tristan “Mack” Wilds and Keith David. The play is scheduled to open Oct. 31 at the Golden Theatre.
“Thoughts of a Colored Man” is produced by Brian Moreland, Ron Simons, Diana DiMenna, Samira Wiley, Sheryl Lee Ralph, the Shubert Organization and the Nederlander Organization.
The play, which features a combination of spoken word, slam poetry and rhythm, follows seven Black men on a single day in Brooklyn.
The cast features a mixture of Broadway, music and television talent. Burnside currently stars in FX’s “Pose;” James is a Grammy Award-nominated R&B artist and a star of Showtime’s “The Chi;” Da’Vinchi is a film and television actor, who is about to star in Showtime’s “Black Mafia Family;” Mack starred in HBO’s “The Wire” and is a Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter.
Clark comes to the role from the cast of “Hamilton,” McClendon starred in “The Scottsboro Boys” and David returns to Broadway after several credits including “Seven Guitars.”
