Disney Theatrical will pay the service fees on any ticket purchased to either of its Broadway shows through Aug. 7, 2022.
The offer comes as “The Lion King” plans a return on Sept. 14 and “Aladdin” announces a return to the New Amsterdam Theater on Sept. 28. Disney Theatrical will pay the fees typically associated with Ticketmaster purchases to allow for more flexibility in ticket buying.
“After 18 months of being apart we are thrilled to welcome our audiences back and are proud to introduce these unique benefits to make buying Broadway tickets risk-free, flexible and affordable,” said Thomas Schumacher, president and producer of Disney Theatrical Productions. “Broadway’s reopening – before tourists fully return – will be the perfect time for us tri-staters to attend Broadway as shows will be more accessible than ever.”
In addition, Disney Theatrical is offering tickets to both “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” starting at $149 total.
New York City tourism is expected to see a gradual return after the pandemic, with international visitors lagging U.S. visitors. This is an important factor for many Broadway shows, including “The Lion King” and “Aladdin,” as international ticket buyers made up 19% of the Broadway audience in 2019, while U.S. attendees from outside the tri-area made up 46% of the audience, according to a survey from the Broadway League.
Disney Theatrical will also allow ticket buyers to exchange or cancel tickets for no charge before or on the day of the performance. Other productions in theaters owned by the Nederlander Organization and Shubert Organization have announced similar policies.
“The Lion King,” which announced its reopening in conjunction with “Hamilton” and “Wicked,” opened at the Minskoff Theatre on Nov. 13, 1996. “Aladdin” opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014.
