Pulitzer Prize Board postpones announcement of 2021 drama prize winner

The Pulitzer Prize Board has postponed its announcement of the 2021 winners in drama, journalism, books and music.  The announcement will now be made on June 11, 2021 at 1 p.m., about two months after the originally scheduled date of April 19.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has postponed its announcement of the 2021 winners in drama, journalism, books and music.

The announcement will now be made on June 11, 2021 at 1 p.m., about two months after the originally scheduled date of April 19. This year, the board will consider postponed or cancelled productions as well as shows that streamed online.

The board said it moved the announcement date to allow board members to meet and discuss nominees in person.

The drama prize will encompass theatrical productions that were scheduled to open between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2020. It can include dramatic works postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic, as well as productions performed outside, online or in other venues.

However, as previously announced, productions that opened within that time frame can choose to delay submitting work and present it for consideration at a later time.

Michael R. Jackson’s “A Strange Loop” won the 2020 recent Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
