The Public’s Shakespeare in the Park is planning to return to the Delacorte Theater this summer.

The planned season will begin July 5 with a Jocelyn Bioh (“School Girls”) adaptation of “Merry Wives,” directed by Saheem Ali. This marks the first time Shakespeare in the Park will play the Delacorte since summer 2019.

“We have spent the last year getting ready. We have been producing new work, and preparing a safe return. We’ve grieved, Zoomed, innovated, supported our communities, and connected our city,” the Public’s website reads.

The adaptation, which will play an eight-week run, will set the Shakespearean tale in South Harlem in a community of West African immigrants.

The Public is working on the production in partnership with city officials, theatrical unions and health and safety experts. The performance schedule will be announced at a later date.
