“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize Broadway’s magnificent work of during the 2019-2020 season,” Heather Hitchens, president and chief executive of the American Theatre Wing and Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League, said in a press release. “Our Broadway community has been incredibly resilient during this difficult time, and we look forward to paying tribute to the performers and artists.”

The Tony Award nominations will consider 18 productions from the 2019-2020 season, with a cutoff date of Feb. 19, 2020. This excludes “West Side Story” and “Girl from the North Country.”

Given the shortened season, some of the nominations may look different this year. For example, the best score category only has one possible nominee from a musical, “Lightning Thief.” The leading actor in a musical category only has two possible nominees.

While no official clarity has been given on how these categories will be treated, a Tony spokesperson said that “rules have been adjusted.”
