Ruben Santiago-Hudson is joining Manhattan Theatre Club as an artistic advisor.
In the role, Santiago-Hudson will work with Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and artistic staff on programming for Manhattan Theatre Club. Santiago-Hudson previously worked with Manhattan Theatre Club on his 2017 revival of August Wilson’s “Jitney.”

At this critical time in our history, theater must be a turning point, a bridge to our shared humanity,” Santiago-Hudson said in a press release. “MTC is committed to making sure that every voice is heard, and all stories have value. I share that commitment, that unifying vision, and I look forward to a creative and productive collaboration.”
In addition to his direction of “Jitney,” which won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play, Santiago-Hudson’s directing credits include “The Piano Lesson,” “Skeleton Crew,” “Othello,” “Gem of The Ocean,” “Paradise Blue” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” He recently adapted “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” for Netflix.
“Barry [Grove] and I, along with the rest of the artistic team and staff, look forward to collaborating with him, receiving advice, guidance, and wisdom as together, we continue our work to make MTC a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution,” Meadow said.
