The Outer Critics Circle named its 2019-2020 honorees for the abbreviated Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
Rather than name nominees and winners, the writers organization chose to name up to six honorees in each acting category and up five honorees in each technical category. “Moulin Rouge!” and “Jagged Little Pill” received the highest number of mentions, at 11 and eight respectively, with “The Sound Inside” and “The Secret Life of Bees” both receiving seven.
In addition to the honorees, the John Gassner Award, presented to an American play, preferably by a new playwright, was awarded to Catya McMullen for “Georgia Mertching Is Dead;” Will Arbery for “Heroes of the Fourth Turning;” Alexis Scheer for “Our Dear Dead Drug Lord;” and Eboni Booth for “Paris.”
