“Almost Famous” has posted an audition notice for a planned run in fall 2020 at a Broadway theater.
The musical, which features a book by Cameron Crowe and music by Tom Kitt, made its world premiere at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in September 2019. Jeremy Herrin, director of “Noises Off” and “Wolf Hall” on Broadway, directed the run.
According to the Equity audition notice, the musical will begin previews in October 2020 and will open in November 2020.
The production declined to comment on the timeline in the audition notice. It is produced by Lia Vollack, Joey Parnes, Sue Wagner and John Johnson. Columbia Stage Live was previously listed as a producer on the project, but it is now acting as an investor, after Vollack left the division to form her own production company.
The musical is based on the 2000 film, for which Crowe wrote the screenplay. It is based on his own life as a young journalist writing about rock ‘n’ roll.
Per the notice, all roles have been cast. The production is seeking a standby for the lead role of William Miller.
In San Diego, the cast included Colin Donnell as Russell Hammond, Solea Pfeiffer as Penny Lane and Casey Likes as William Miller.
