Music Theatre International has promoted Deborah Hartnett to the position of senior vice president and general counsel.

Hartnett has served as the licensor’s director of business and legal affairs since 2010. She begins in this newly created position, in which she will become a member of the senior management team, Jan. 1.

“We are thrilled to promote Deb to the position of Senior Vice President,” said Drew Cohen, chief executive of MTI. “She has been indispensable to MTI’s success in so many ways that go beyond managing MTI’s legal and business affairs department and providing excellent legal advice.”

Before coming to MTI, Hartnett was co-head of the entertainment department at the law firm Paul Weiss. She previously taught theater law at Columbia University School of the Arts, served as a trustee for the Theatre Development Fund and acted as the general management consultant at Manhattan Theatre Club.
